Orthopedic Massage for Pelvic Stabilization & Complicated Upper Body Conditions
This presentation will revolve around new myofascial pain studies presented at Harvard Medical School, and tendinitis vs. tendinosis research dating back to 1946. Participants will implement new techniques that will forever change the way they approach myofascial, trigger point, and tendon pain. These innovative structurally oriented routines offer pain-free multi-modality methods for achieving immediate and permanent relief from complex disorders of the pelvic region and entire upper body. Ground breaking frozen shoulder corrections and techniques for immediate release of hip capsule problems will create almost miraculous results in complicated hip and shoulder conditions. Theory, real case studies, and 70% hands on training highlight this upbeat presentation.

James recieved the 1998 FSMTA International Achievement award and is being inducted into the Massage Therapy Hall of Fame in 2008.     Introduction to Stone Massage
    This lecture/demo developed by Bruce Baltz, founder of SpiriPhysical®, Inc., will enlighten all participants in the application of hot and cold stones massage and the necessary supplies. While taking a few basic precautions the therapist can minimize strain on their body and ensure their client’s safety. 3 CE Hours.

    Assessment & Treatment of Common Knee Injuries
    This workshop presents an orthopedic massage-based approach to knee pain. In addition to covering all the essential principles of pain and injury, the training provides instruction in anatomy, assessment tests, treatment techniques, and client home exercises for the most commonly injured structures in the knee: the patella tendon mechanism and the medial and lateral collateral ligaments. 3 CE Hours.

    Integral Anatomy: Layers, Relationships & Continuity
    This course consists of a lecture and slideshow presentation documenting original laboratory research of a novel approach to human anatomy which is consistent with the holistic body philosophy of the massage field, based on an emphasis on the layers, relationships and continuities of human form over conventional regional approaches.

    Introducing the International Journal of Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork: Suggestions on Publishing in this Peer-Reviewed, Open Access Journal
    This session overviews the nature, scope, and objectives of the International Journal of Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork recently launched by the Massage Therapy Foundation. The focus is on the peer-reviewed and open access features of this journal, along with a demonstration of the template-driven, Open Journal System (OJS) software that manages the publication process from manuscript submission to the electronic publishing of the journal’s quarterly issues. This session also surveys the intended content coverage of the journal’s three principal components. Guidance is provided to prospective authors regarding the preparing a manuscript for publication consideration. 3 CE Hours. Research Track.

    Glenn M. Hymel, EdD, LMT, is Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychology at Loyola University New Orleans. His principal areas of specialization include educational psychology, research & statistics, and the psychology of personal adjustment, and he maintains a practice in the Greater New Orleans Area.

    Working with Trauma and Dissociation
    Dissociation from the body is a common experience among individuals who have a trauma history involving interpersonal violation such as abuse or assault, or have experienced other traumas such as automobile accidents, life threatening events, and hospital procedures. This class is designed to teach bodywork therapists tools for working with bodily dissociation. The class will incorporate demonstration and hands-on practice of bodywork approaches for working with dissociation. 3 CE Hours.

    Speaker: Cynthia Price
    Cynthia’s clinical and research expertise is in bodywork and body-oriented psychotherapy. In private practice for 17 years, she has a Masters degree in Counseling/Psychology and a Ph.D. in Nursing Science. Her work is focused on populations with somatic and psychological health concerns.

    Massage Therapy on Trial: Working with the Legal System
    As massage therapy becomes more and more prevalent as a treatment for connective tissue injuries suffered by car crash victims and others involved in litigation, massage therapists will find themselves interacting more and more with the legal system. We will explore this interaction through a combination of lecture and Q&A, which will cover such issues as choice of legal entity, dealing with auto insurers, your potential role as an expert witness, and malpractice considerations. 3 CE Hours.

    Roger Turgeon is a personal injury lawyer who has concentrated in representing injured clients since he graduated with honors from Harvard Law School in 1980. His practice includes a large percentage of cases involving connective tissue injuries treated by “non-traditional” means, such as chiropractic and massage therapy.
